1. Introduction
Principal Plan is a product of Thomsens.net LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). This privacy policy describes how we collect and use information on the pplan.com website and in the Principal Plan application. It supplements our company-wide privacy policy, which governs general practices across all Thomsens.net LLC properties.
With your permission, we use third-party analytics on this website. We honor browser privacy signals such as Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Do Not Track (DNT). You can change your cookie choice at any time using the "Reset cookie preferences" link at the bottom of this page.
2. Information We Collect
On this website (pplan.com):
The only data we collect on this website is analytics data, and only after you accept on our cookie banner. This site has no sign-up, no contact form, and no account system. If you email us using a link on the site, we receive whatever information you choose to include in that email.
Analytics data is collected through Google Analytics and may include:
- Technical Data: IP address (used to derive a coarse region, not stored), browser type and version, operating system, and device information
- Usage Data: pages visited, time on page, referring site, and similar interaction data
- Online Identifiers: cookie IDs and client IDs used by the analytics provider
If you decline the banner, or your browser sends a GPC or DNT signal, no analytics data is collected.
In the Principal Plan applications:
Principal Plan and Principal Plan Mobile are applications that run locally on your own devices. Your financial data — accounts, transactions, envelopes, and budgets — is stored on your devices. We never have access to your financial data in readable form. Your information stays on your devices unless you independently choose to back it up elsewhere. If you use optional mobile device pairing, described below, only end-to-end encrypted data that we cannot read passes through our servers.
Mobile device pairing: if you pair a mobile device with your desktop, shared data is cached on our servers so your paired device can retrieve it. That data is protected with strong end-to-end encryption before it ever leaves your device. The secret keys needed to read it are stored only on your desktop and on your paired device — they are never sent to us, so the cached data is completely unreadable on our servers, including by us. Cached data is deleted when you unpair, and automatically 90 days after it was last synced from your desktop. The pairing scheme uses no identifiers beyond what is needed to route data between your paired devices, and none of them are used for tracking. As with any internet service, connections to our servers may pass through upstream network infrastructure — such as load balancers or content delivery networks — that may log connection details like IP addresses for security and operational purposes. Any such logs never contain your financial data, which is encrypted before it leaves your device.
The desktop application asks for two things on first launch. Both are opt-in, and both are unchecked by default. The application is fully functional if you decline them.
- Keep me informed: you may supply your name and email address to receive product news and support. This is the only personal information the application ever sends, and it is sent only if you ask for it. It is stored on secured servers and is never sold. We retain this information until you ask us to remove it by emailing info@thomsens.net.
- Share anonymous usage data: you may opt in to anonymous usage statistics, which help us understand how the application is used and where to improve it. They describe the application and how it is being run — never you. They carry no name, no email address, and no financial data of any kind: no accounts, no envelopes, no transactions, and no balances.
The two are kept deliberately uncorrelated. Your contact information and your anonymous usage data are tagged with separate, independent identifiers, so usage statistics cannot be traced back to the person who registered. Either choice can be changed at any time from the Help > Registration menu in the application.
All purchases and subscriptions are handled through the Microsoft Store or the Apple App Store. We do not process payments or store payment card information. Those platforms handle billing according to their own privacy policies.
We do not sell any data collected through this website or the Principal Plan application to other entities.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use information in the following ways:
- To respond to your inquiries
- To measure site usage and improve performance
- To communicate with registered users about updates and support
- To notify you about changes to our service
When you accept cookies on our banner, we enable analytics. If you decline, analytics remains off. We do not enable personalized advertising or remarketing.
4. Data Security
We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered or disclosed. Because Principal Plan and Principal Plan Mobile store your financial data locally, the security of that data also depends on the security practices of your own devices.
5. Data Sharing
We will never sell your personal information to other entities. We will not share your personal data with third parties except:
- When required by law or to comply with legal process
- When sharing is necessary to deliver a product or service you have requested
- With trusted service providers who assist us in operating our website and conducting our business, provided that those parties agree to keep this information confidential
